On an unseasonably warm late October evening, representatives from Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Fairfax County Redevelopment & Housing Authority, Enterprise Community Development, Fellowship Square Foundation, and Capital One gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Lake Anne House, six months late. The new construction of Lake Anne House, a 240-unit, 8-story building that will replace the mid-1960s Lake Anne Fellowship House, began in May of this year, marking the culmination of five years of effort by Enterprise, Fellowship, and their many design, construction, government, and financial partners.
With area-wide lockdowns still very much in place in May, the project team was not able to publicly celebrate this milestone. Six months later, the pandemic and construction both continue, so we held a small, socially distanced, masked ceremony limited to speakers and members of the development partnership. Attendees included Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeffrey McKay, Hunter Mill District Supervisor Walter Alcorn, and FCRHA Commissioner Dick Kennedy. Susan Dewey, the director of Virginia Housing, the state agency that issued the project Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, also contributed a video remotely. We were disappointed to not have Lake Anne Fellowship House residents join in the celebration and look forward to welcoming a much bigger crowd for ribbon cutting in 2022!
